What’s it all about?

10 Events:

A SERIES OF IN-PERSON EVENTS OVER THE COURSE OF 1 YEAR, EACH EXPLORING A CRUCIAL ASPECT OF ORGANIZATIONS AS THRIVING LIVING SYSTEMS.

10 Cities:

MONTREAL AND AMSTERDAM ARE PILOT CITIES, LEADING THE WAY FOR 8 MORE CITIES AND A JANUARY LAUNCH.

1 Quest:

TO DOCUMENT, ELABORATE AND ACCELERATE THE WAVE OF “POSITIVE MUTATION” THAT IS ALREADY TRANSFORMING HOW WE CONCEIVE OF ORGANIZATIONS AND HOW WORK IS DONE, SO THAT OUR COLLECTIVE ACTIONS MORE CONSISTENTLY CREATE THE CONDITIONS ESSENTIAL FOR LIFE TO THRIVE AT EVERY LEVEL.

World Harvest:

THROUGH STORIES, VIDEOS, ARTICLES, IMAGES AND ULTIMATELY A COLLECTIVELY AUTHORED BOOK, WE WILL SHARE WITH THE WORLD WHAT WE DISCOVER TOGETHER DURING THE SERIES, OFFERING EXAMPLES, BEST PRINCIPLES, INSPIRING SPEAKERS, TECHNIQUES, ENCOURAGEMENT, AND A GROWING GLOBAL TRIBE.  THE MOVEMENT WILL CULMINATE IN A MANIFESTO FOR HOW ORGANIZATIONS MUST BE IF HUMANITY IS TO SURVIVE ON THE PLANET.

How will it work?

Each city will host one three-hour in-person event each month for ten months. The topics for each event will be drawn from the Thrivability Competency Model (see below), which will serve as our starting point and map.

Each event will take place on the same date across all participating cities, with in-event cross-pollination (as feasible). Facilitator toolkits will ensure consistency so we can identify global themes.  City hosts will ensure local relevance and invite city-specific perspectives.

Short videos will seed inspiration within each event, followed by dynamically hosted conversation.  In this way, each event will be an amazing experience in itself, with plenty of learning.  The more events people attend, the more they gain. In addition, insights will be identified and posted by participants and local hosts, with curation and synthesis by the global organizing team.

What’s in it for you?

(1) You’ll learn new perspectives and practices that will be useful in your work and in your life.

(2) You’ll contribute to humanity (and all life) by helping articulate the core principles of thrivable organizations.

(3) You’ll become part of an emerging tribe, helping each other find the courage to have the conversations that our organizations need to have.

When will it happen?

Fall 2013 will be the pilot phase, with preliminary events held in Montreal and Amsterdam (cities where the Thrivability movement already has nice momentum).  In January 2014, the series will launch officially, rolling out across the remaining cities throughout the year.

What is thrivability?

Thrivability is a growing global movement and an active leadership and organizational practice. Guided by what we know about living systems, we define it as the intention and tendency to enhance the integrity, regenerative capacity and beauty of life at every level through thrivable organizational stewardship.

What’s the background?

For the past three years, the Thrivability Montreal conversation series has explored a range of topics and prototyped various formats.  The written harvests from the series form an important collection of leading edge thinking on thrivability in organizations, as well as for individuals and communities.  The initiative has a growing local and global following, contributing to Montreal’s reputation as a vibrant, creative hub of thrivability.  Thrivable World is the natural next phase to expand the conversation, deepen the insights and contribute further to the global movement.
